Latest News: It's the final week of the school holidays... Get creative with this delicious pizza recipe from Bella Italia!
With only one week left of the school holidays, why not get have some fun with the kids (and big kids!) and make some tasty pizzas at home with this Bella Italia recipe?
Ingredients
For the pizza dough:
> 1kg strong bread making flour
> 1tbs salt
> 1tbs white caster sugar
> 14g dried yeast
> 4tbs olive oil
> 650ml lukewarm water
For the fresh pizza sauce:
> 350g tomato passata
> 1 tsp salt
> 2tbsps of extra virgin olive oil
> 1tsp dried oregano
> ground pepper to taste
> shredded fresh basil to taste
Toppings:
> Mozzarella cheese
> Any other toppings you like!
Step 1: Pizza Dough
What to do:
1. Get your hips shaking as you sieve the flour into a large bowl and mix in salt.
2. Mix the sugar, yeast and oil with the water and leave for a couple of minutes to let the yeast dissolve.
3. Make a well in the centre of the flour and pour the liquid mixture in. Bring the flour in from the sides and swirl it into the liquid until it starts to resemble dough.
4. Now to get messy! Get the kids to flour a smooth surface and knead the dough until it becomes smooth and springy.
5. Divide the dough into 6 pieces and knead each piece into a round ball. Cover with a damp cloth for about 45mins and watch them grow!
Step 2: Fresh pizza sauce
What to do:
This is easy and tastes great! Mix all the required ingredients together in any order you like.
Step 3: Assemble
What to do:
1. Now our pizzas are ready to start taking shape! To get started cover your hands, the dough balls and your work top with flour.
2. Flatten the dough with the palm of your hands and then use your fingertips to press out both sides into a circular shape, until it is 1 inch thick.
3. Stretch or roll out the base to your desired size and thickness and place onto an oiled baking tray (TOP TIP FROM MAMMA: If you have a circular tray, push the dough up the sides to form a 1cm crust).
4. Spread your fresh tomato sauce up to the edges, top with mozzarella and add oregano.
Step 4: Get creative with your toppings!
Now it’s time to get creative! Why not make smiley faces or simple animals on your pizza to add a little fun to the topping? This is a great way to introduce new ingredients and vegetables to kids too.
MAMMA RECOMMENDS: Sweetcorn, mushrooms, peppers, onions, olives, anchovies, spinach, spring onions, ham, chicken, aubergines, artichokes, pepperoni, courgette, chopped garlic, prawns or chilli if you like it hot!
Step 5: Cook and enjoy!
Bake for about 10 minutes in a pre-heated oven at 200c-220c.
