Latest News: Reviewed by Gourmet Society: Loch Fyne 'back to the floor' event
When we were initially invited to Loch Fyne’s ‘back to the floor’ charity event, I have to admit the idea of senior management running a restaurant for an evening had me a little on edge; my mind filled with images of chaotic businessmen rushing around to the sound of plates smashing in the background. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
We had a wonderful evening of incredible seafood, complemented by flowing drinks and the buzzy atmosphere you’ll find at every Loch Fyne Seafood & Grill.
There is truly something for everyone on the menu, but the fish really is the show stopper here. The perfect place to convert your seafood-phobic friends and family; Loch Fyne’s seafood is all sustainably sourced and cooked from scratch in the restaurant, making it some of the best and freshest seafood around.
From the fish bar, I chose the Anglesey sea bass; pan-fried to perfection in a punchy chilli and coriander butter, served with sautéed potatoes and tenderstem broccoli. It’s a unique concept: choose from their “catches of the day”, choose how you’d like it cooked, select your accompaniments, and enjoy! Of course, the menu is brimming with other delectable dishes; such as indulgent lobster spaghetti, spiced king prawn masala, and their “seafood selection”, which my dining partner had. Whilst Loch Fyne may be the perfect place to turn all seafood-sceptics, they do also offer an equally delicious (and perfectly cooked!) selection of meat and vegetarian dishes, including a selection of steaks from royal warrant holder, Donald Russell.
For those with a bit of a sweet tooth (like me!), be sure to indulge in dessert. My recommendation; passion fruit cheesecake with passion fruit & mango sorbet. Now, cheesecake is one of my all-time favourite desserts, and considering myself somewhat of a connoisseur, this was definitely up there as one of the best.
Moving away from the skills of the kitchen, it is clear that all staff at Loch Fyne are absolutely committed to providing the very best; front of house staff were friendly and approachable – confident in making suggestions of dishes, whilst being crucially unobtrusive.
Loch Fyne’s passion for ensuring a great customer experience is evident, even the idea for the event shows they are committed to keeping the brand approachable. 16 members of senior management got stuck in and went back to the floor, working for free for the evening. And from what I can tell, they seemed to be really enjoying it! If this is the standard of dining offered at the charity event, I can only imagine how good it would be when the restaurant is run by the experienced staff who do it daily.
Not forgetting the fact that the event was for an incredibly worthwhile cause. All gratuities of the evening were donated to Macmillan Cancer Support, who do some excellent work with those whose lives are affected by cancer. All the team worked incredibly hard and raised a tremendous amount for charity!
If you missed out, donations are always welcome online on the Macmillan website
Overall, I had a wonderful evening and I will certainly be returning to my local Loch Fyne Seafood & Grill and only recommend the best for our lovely Gourmet Society members – who, of course, can save 25% off their total bill!
