A stone’s throw away from Rode Hall & Gardens and Mow Cop Castle in Scholar Green, found north of Stone-on-Trent, is the utterly enchanting country pub known as The Rising Sun. Thoroughly charming inside and out, the warm and welcoming Rising Sun is family run and features a kitchen that should excite guests, thanks to the combined talents and efforts of the three chefs Martin Williams, Sam Smith and Dane Machin.
The culmination of these three skilled chefs have created a contemporary menu that is truly exquisite, offering a potent blend of classic pub grub and tantalisingly modern British dishes. Everything’s made with locally sourced, high quality ingredients, such as fresh meat from Longton’s master butcher H.H. Jackson Ltd and heavenly ice cream from Tarporley’s Cheshire Farm Ice Cream.
The menu shifts with the seasons to offer guests enthralling, new dining experiences as the year goes by. Just a handful of the sublime starters that have graced the menu before have included the juicy bourbon glazed pork belly bites, partnered with a homemade coleslaw, the divine tempura prawns, complete with a tequila, lime & chilli dressing, and the scrumptious feta, sundried tomato & leek tart, presented on a balsamic dressed olive salad.
As well as British pub grub classics and grilled delights there are the chef’s specialities to savour. Outstanding examples of such include the smooth pasta primavera, tortiglioni pasta enriched with sautéed spring greens & a light cream sauce, the irresistible pan seared cod loin, served with sautéed Cheshire new potatoes, chorizo crisps & an asparagus puree, and the delectable chicken supreme, paired with wild mushrooms, charred leeks & a tarragon sauce.
