Bar Soba has been going from strength to strength ever since opening their doors in Glasgow in 1999 – serving a tantalising array of flavours from all over Asia. The bar and restaurant endeavours to bring a fascinating mix of Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Malaysian and Vietnamese flavours to the fore and have done so in a fashion that has both intrigued and delighted hungry guests for a number of years.
After branching out of Glasgow and into Edinburgh with huge success, the company has since decided bring the Pan-Asian taste sensation further south to Merrion Street in Leeds, where they set up in 2015 and have been wowing the Yorkshire food scene ever since. The small plates at Bar Soba, like the spicy salt and pepper squid and the marinated Vietnamese sticky chicken wings, make for exquisite dishes to be eaten alone or shared in a tapas style, while their numerous rice and noodle bowls may as well have come straight from the markets and noodle vendors of South-East Asia. From the classic Pad Thai to the Teriyaki beef noodles, a succulent seared bavette steak which is thinly sliced on top of wok fried noodles, there is enough available to meet any palate need, whereas the dirty Bangkok chapati burger, which comes infused with chilli, lemongrass, coriander and garlic, and the crispy 5-spiced chicken, there are some terrific alternatives that are sure to satiate the carnivorous appetite.
Having developed a fantastic reputation for creating cocktails, Bar Soba is the perfect place to take advantage of the 25% Gourmet Society discount – which comes off the whole bill! Whisky-lovers will be right at home with the Smoke without Fire, which comes complete with Lillet Blanc, Maraschino liquor and a secret mix of bitters, while the refreshing Jade Mist is an apple flavoured vodka drink that is shaken with muddled cucumber and Midori before being diluted with lemon juice to make for a zesty finish. Though if you’re not particularly partial to a cocktail, there are also an array of beers, ciders, and spirits that are ideal for washing the meal down, while their extensive wine list is just waiting to be perused.
