An underrated little gem, this excellent fish bar in North London bites better than it barks. This charming restaurant, located along London's Archway Road, close to London St Pancras and Angel tube station, is a perfect place to get a scrumptious seafood supper yet so many people haven't heard of it.
Over the years the owners have changed the menu to include more meat dishes like chicken skewers however, that shouldn't detract from its star attraction: fish, in all its forms. Chargrilled, poached, battered in breadcrumbs, seared or fried: Fish Fish has it all. From seabream and mussels to scallops or clams. Perfect for a quiet lunch or fresh evening bite, this London restaurant accommodates groups, singles or couples along its long boat-like interior.
So many places serve soggy chips and slime-y fish, but, here at Fish Fish, Archway, the British national classic is executed with aplomb. The chips have a fluffy inner layer and a crunchy outside and the fish has a fresh crisp batter. Light bites like spicy squid salad show that seafood shouldn't be confined to Friday fish night, although many locals, pleased by the quality and service Fish Fish provides have started to re-instigate this tradition. A bright, clean interior, with light wooden panel floors and teal wood work gives a satisfying sense of the seaside without going overboard and appearing twee.
In summer months plant pots adorn the little seated area the restaurant boasts at its back, making it a wonderful place for a twilight bite. Diners can sit back with a good range of wines, bottled beers and lagers. Showing old favourites die hard, this friendly, efficient restaurant is a great local jewel that should be frequented more often.
