Located in the historic Midland Railway Institute Building in Derby is Waterfall, a party venue that is home to a vibrant, modern and newly refurbished bar and café area. The site can be found on the doorstep of the Derby North Railway station, which happens to be at the beginning of the City Rail Walk, making it easily accessible and the ideal stop off point before or after a jaunt round the city.
Early risers will be more than happy with a breakfast menu that is heavy on the quintessentially British staples. Where the dishes include a Full English of sausage, bacon, fried egg and all the trimmings that sits alongside another of the nation’s favourites in the sausage baguette. Adding a little variety, the breakfast burger is available and is adorned with sautéed mushrooms and a fried egg.
Keeping with the burger theme, the above is accompanied by a range of the carnivorous delights, from the sweet and smoky barbecue number to the Balti Burger, for those that like a little bit of a kick. Straight from the sea are the traditionally British beer battered haddock – complete with the expected chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce – and the sublime salmon fillet, while the steak and ale pie offers a superb heart-warming meaty alternative. For the more indulgent diner, the succulent 10-ounce prime ribeye steak is cooked to their preference and is guaranteed to satisfy.
Rounding the meal off perfectly are the Waterfall desserts, where the rich hot chocolate pudding is perfectly contrasted by the wonderfully tart apple and blackberry crumble – and where cold choices can be found in the heavenly Banoffee and chocolate ice-cream pies.
